The Archbishop's Pastoral Letter

continued from last week

The third moment, naturally, is Mary at the foot of the cross. Standing at the cross, Mary witnessed the overwhelming love of God for us that is revealed in the crucifixion and death of Jesus. In Holy Week we, too, must be very close to the Lord in his suffering if we are to grasp and appreciate the depth of God’s love for each one of us. Mary also saw blood and water flow from the side of Christ which is a symbol of the life of Christ that is given to us through our prayer and most of all, through the sacraments

Towards a Vision for the Diocese

Part I: Growing in Communion
Parish Consultation 26th March 2007 – Questions for Discussion.

  1. What are the most important elements in developing the life of the parish? Which have been most effective – what is it that makes you feel that you belong to your parish/deanery/diocese? Why?
  2. What are the key challenges we encounter in developing communion and unity in the parish/deanery/diocese? How can we best respond to these challenges?
  3. From the vision of the Church as communion, what priorities emerge for our parish/deanery/diocese? What implications do they have for the way we work together?
  4. What resources, ministries and activities can we identify to bring these priorities into reality? [eg Liturgy? Catechesis? Ecclesial Movements? Movements that promote marriage and family life? Shared commitment to justice, peace and pro-life movements? Ethnic Associations/Chaplaincies?]

Amnesty International

Letters of appeal will be available to sign after Masses next weekend 10th – 11th March. Two people we have recently supported have been released! Please send a letter and let’s get some more prisoners of conscience out of jail.

Refugee Network Sutton

Would like to thank everyone who kindly gave donations or toys for the children’s Christmas Party, which was a great success, with over 150 people attending and a very busy Father Christmas. All year round, the Network is ready to welcome newly arrived refugee families and likes to give them a parcel of basic foods to help them provide for themselves in those first difficult days.

Supplies are running low at present and RNS has asked if we can help

You are not making a gift of what is yours to the poor person, but you are giving them back what is theirs.
